Aloha! Winter in Hawaii is a wondrous time
indeed, and with the North Pacific Humpback
Whales returning to the epicenter of Maui's
breeding grounds, we are again privileged to
witness their sacred annual ritual.
The protection offered by the surrounding
islands of Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and Kahoolawe,
the shallow waters of the Auau Channel and
the lack of natural predators, all contribute to
the preservation and health of the species. This
wonderful opportunity to observe them is our
great privilege.
But, while the Endangered Species Act keeps the
humpbacks safe, the same thing can't be said for
all marine life. The effects of global warming,
overfishing, ignorance and pollution continue
to threaten the quality of life in our oceans and
their inhabitants worldwide.
Although there are currently many changes and
legal measures being taken to help, it's still not
nearly enough – we each need to pitch in to
preserve the health of our oceans. Every one of us
can help right now with actions such as reducing
or eliminating plastic use & purchase, refraining
from littering, cleaning up beaches & supporting
various conservation actions. Do what you can
do, and remember ...
It's all about the Love. – Marty Wolff
