Island Cream Co. Something new and delicious has come to Maui. It's not ice cream and it's not gelato rather it's a hybrid between the two and it's called Island Cream. The owner, Dan Blessing, who was dubbed "the mad scientist" by Lahaina News, has a knack for combining fresh ingredients to create exotic flavors that burst in intensity when they hit your palette. With unlimited tastings encouraged, he commonly challenges people to see how good it really is. We recently took him up on his offer and he brought over 30 flavors to our publishing office in April. We invited all the folks from the neighbouring offices to come over for a taste test and, needless to say, we were very popular and so was the Island Cream. My favorite was the fresh Pistachio, but votes went out for everything ranging from the non-fat Raspberry Lemon to the S'mores. I also loved Carmel Apple (over the top), and the Peanut Butter Pie. In the end, after tallying up the votes for everyone's top 3, the one loved most often was...(drum roll, please)... Black Forest! Rich dark chocolate with freshly baked dark chocolate cake mixed in amazing. Try it in one of their freshly cooked, hot, crispy chocolate, vanilla or cinnamon waffle cones, with a cup of their special Maui Island Coffee. Located in Lahaina, across from Panda Express. It's listed on Yahoo as one of the 18 Best Ice Cream Shops in America.
