26 Maui's Favorite Island Directory • MauiMagazines.pub If you've already landed on our island, you're beginning to get a sense of how beautiful Maui is. But unless you climb aboard a helicopter and take a tour from the sky, you'll be missing spectacular sights impossible to ever see from the ground. Plus, what would take you hours to explore, you get to see in full splendor in just minutes. Okay, so let's get down to it - here are my favorite sights: first, Haleakala's volcanic crater and lava flows. Of course, the "Wall of Tears" with over 17 waterfalls flowing at once, rainforests and bamboo jungles. But I wouldn't stop there. Once in the chopper, I would head over to see the world's steepest sea cliffs (over 1,700 ft. tall) and Saint Damien's monument at Kalaupapa on Molokai. Of course, watching whales breach from up above is a favorite treat, too! – Ross Scott Maui from Above Spectacular views of secluded Maui. Awarded the Purple Heart and two Distinguished Flying Crosses for his bravery as a senior helicopter pilot and platoon leader at 25, Ross Scott went on to launch Sunshine Helicopters in 1985 with his wife Anna. They operate helicopter tours on Maui, Kauai, Oahu and the Big Island. For more information about flying in choppers, or what you can see from above, call Sunshine at (808) 871-7933 or check out their website at SunshineHelicopters.com. Honokohau Falls is Maui's tallest waterfall at 1119'. I'm an avid kiteboarder, and my favorite spot to catch the winds is off Kanaha Beach Park. This island's got a lot going for it. It's not too crowded, and there's plenty of good restaurants. My favorites are Mama's Fish House, Thai Spice, and Colleen's. Maui is a great place to be! – Derek Hoyte Go Fly a Kite Enjoying the trade winds. Derek Hoyte owns and operates NorthShore Zipline, located in beautiful Haiku in upcountry Maui. Their rainforest zip course is not only beautiful, it is rich in WWII history! To experience a thrilling treetop adventure like no other, call (808) 269-0671 or visit NSZipline.com. Ziplines were first used to study ecosystems.
