ROAD TO HANA >> 59 This 43-mile road (from mile marker 0) is literally carved into the side of the island and offers some of the world's most breathtaking oceanfront scenery. We are comfortable saying that the Road to Hana is our personal favorite in terms of scenic highways. Want to know where all the cool stops are? Drive yourself using the GyPSY Guide app with 140 commentary points. GypsyGuide.com TIP # 1 TIP # 2 TIP # 3 TIP # 4 Take your time: It's all about the journey when it comes to this drive. Make sure you stop along the way to check out the waterfalls, tropical flowers, and the amazing views of the coast. It's breathtaking. Note: Please pull off road to let others pass. Start Early: It's a long day if you do it right. It may only be 52 miles, but with all the twists, turns and sights, you will want to take your time to enjoy. Get going early, so you don't feel rushed. Pack a Lunch: There are few restaurants between Paia and Hana and given the time and distance, you will get hungry. There are roadside stands with snacks along the way, but a prepared Hana box lunch will sure come in handy. Grab one in Kaanapali at CJ's Deli & Diner. (667-0968) Take a camera: It is so beautiful that at times you won't believe your eyes, and you will want to remember this trip long after you get home. Our favorite shot is of the rainbow eucalyptus trees between mile markers 6 and 7. 36 365 360 360 377 390 HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK Koolau Forest Reserve Puaa Kaa State Park Makawao Forest Reserve Waianapanapa State Park Hana Beach Park Hana Forest Reserve Lava Field Kahikinui Forest Reserve Kula Forest Reserve Polipoli State Park Hosmer Grove Campground Wailua Valley Lookout P u l au i H w y Hana H w y Ha l eak a la Hwy Ha l eak a la H w y Kokomo Piiholo KULA HANA WAILUA KEANAE KAILUA MOKULAU KIPAHULU KOALI MUOLEA HAMOA PUUIKI KAUPO PUKAAUHUHU NUU PUOHOKAMOA FALLS (Garden of Eden) WAILUA FALLS HANA AIRPORT T RA I L HALEAKALA CRATER MAKAWAO TWIN FALLS HUELO HAIKU Kaupo Store END START • 43 miles • 6 1 7 c ur ves • 56 one - l a n e br i d g e s • ab ou t 4 hou r s If you haven't heard about Maui's famous Road to Hana yet, listen up.
