Dr.Joe Mobley The Hawaii Whale Research Foundation was founded in 1984 by Dr. Dan R. Salden, (1940- 2012) a Professor at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. In the last 25 years, his team's principal focus has been on long-term social affiliation patterns, and providing a platform for graduate students pursuing the study of marine mammals. Dr. Salden passed on 7/18/12, but left behind a team of highly qualified personnel devoted to continuing his legacy in marine mammal research. Mark & Debbie Ferrari The goal of our research is to understand the critical biological parameters, life history, distribution & other critical factors affecting the survival of this endangered species. The CWS believes that benign ornoninvasive observation techniques provide the only true acceptable means for studying living whales in their natural environment. We educate & inform the general public and the decision makers who can implement the necessary measures to ensure this species survival. MARINE MAMMAL RESEARCH CONSULTANTS, LTD Whale Trust studies the communication, behavior and social organization of humpback whales. Two primary projects in Maui are the investigation of the humpback whale song led by Dr. Jim Darling, and a study of female mating strategies in humpback whales led by Dr. Meagan Jones.
