Collecting MAUI BEACH GLASS Shell collecting in Hawaii is frowned upon if you plan to actually remove the shells from the beach. However, walking down the beach and collecting shells to photograph is highly recommended. Try taking pictures of small shells placed into your palm or around your belly button. One of the best portrait photography companies on the island actually does a photo shoot in which they will place shells and leis on the beach around or on your family and then recreate these precious images on t-shirts, mugs and other great gis. Collecting SHELLS ON MAUI STEP ONE: Get a container to collect the glass in. Paper or plastic cups work best, but a Ziploc bag works too. STEP TWO: Get your beach clothes and sunscreen on. Plan to get either a little wet or completely soaked. Bring a towel and a hat, and goggles if you're really brave. STEP THREE: Pick a beach. We recommend in front of Cheeseburger in Paradise in Lahaina or Kam III in Kihei. STEP FOUR: Start looking carefully. If need be, go into the water with goggles. row sharp pieces back into the ocean for more sanding. Blues, reds, and turquoise are the most rare. STEP FIVE: Display in a jar, dish or glass box. HELPFUL TIP: For an amazing selection of island beach glass and shells visit Banana Wind at Lahaina Cannery Mall. 4 3 2 1 5 << LIFESTYLE
