1. EXPLORE PAIA Start off early, and stop at Hana Picnic Lunch Co. to grab breakfast or snacks for the road (they're open from 7am). Bring a rain poncho or umbrella and a few plastic Ziplocs for your camera and wallet. Or, stop by Hana Picnic Lunch Co. for supplies on the way. 3. STOP & SAMPLE FRESH TASTES Visit the Halfway to Hana refreshment stand (Mile Marker 17) for fresh baked banana bread, home made beef jerky, hot dogs, or ice cream they even have an ATM! 4. STAY SAFE When you get out to explore, remember that many areas will be muddy, slippery, steep or heck all three! Be careful. 5. TAKE A BREAK Between Mile Marker 34 & 35 pull into the Hana Fresh Farm Stand for espresso, tea, fruit smoothies or a variety of delicious lunch selections. 6. BRING A SWIMSUIT It's romantic to skinny dip near a waterfall, but the Road to Hana is pretty popular and you probably won't be alone. Pack a suit and towel just to be safe. 7. NEVER GET LOST Grab a Hana CD Tour (Hana Picnic Lunch Co. sells them) or download GyPSy Guide's Hana Tour App (GypsyGuide.com). That way you won't miss a thing! We're happy to say that the Road to Hana is our personal favorite in terms of scenic highways. Don't take our word for it, though on the following pages check out the photos of some of the sights this famous road has to offer. The road starts on Route 36 in Paia, and then the mile markers reset to 0 when Route 36 becomes 360 a good time to reset your odometer. One note of caution: never leave valuables in your unattended car or trunk better safe than sorry! This 42-mile road (from mile-marker 0) is literally carved into the side of the island and offers some of the world's most breathtaking oceanfront scenery. >> the Road to Hana Helpful Tips along the way: >> START: See map page 44-45.
