Adventure Tours If you're looking for excitement and a chance to feel the wind in your hair while exploring the Islands, these tours are exactly what you're after. One of the hottest adventures to hit Maui in the last few years is ziplining and you can try it with Maui Zipline Company (633 -24 6 4), North Shore Zipline (269 - 0 671), Pi'iholo Ranch Adventures (572-1717) or Skyline Eco- Adventures Zipline (425-9300). Some tours are conducted on the slopes of Haleakala, others in central Maui at the Maui Tropical Plantation, and some are in the West Maui Mountains, north of Lahaina Town. Each company offers something unique: aside from zipping, most include easy hikes with narration about Maui's eco-systems, some let you zip into pools, and others reach speeds up to 40mph. Get ready to launch off cliffs, zip across valleys and fly through tropical forests. (Note: You must be at least 5 years old and weigh 50-275 lbs. depending on the company. Call for details). The Road to Hana Our #9 on the list of activities not to miss is the scenic drive along the famous Road to Hana. It's a 52 mile two-lane road with over 600 hairpin turns crossing more than 50 bridges. People say that the drive to Hana isn't only about the destination, it's also about the journey. But hey, it's kinda hard to enjoy the journey when you're navigating those hairpin turns. Instead, keep your eyes on the road and pull over often. One way to get the most out of your Hana trip is to either download the GyPSy Guide App (GypsyGuide.com/maui) or pickup the Hana CD Tour at the Hana Picnic Lunch Co. (808) 579-8686). Taking advantage of either these guided tours will make this trip more fun! On your way be sure you stop in at Half Way to Hana (248-7037), just past mile post 17, to sample their world famous, melt in your mouth banana bread it's baked fresh daily, and their home-made beef jerky. And save room for things like the delicious organic salads, paninis, locally grown fruit, sandwiches, and fresh island fish at the Hana Fresh Farm Stand (HanaFresh.org). For those who would rather focus on the beauty than the road, skip the driving and take a guided tour to Hana. Led by an expert, you'll ride in luxury without missing any waterfalls, beaches, or secret spots. Call Maui Touring Company (214-5804), then sit back, relax and enjoy.
