44 HANA Having fun along the way. I know not everyone can stay at the Travaasa Hana Hotel, and I know that even those who can often won't find a room if they don't call in advance, but here's my suggestion: download Hana Guided Tour (either GyPSy's app or Hana Picnic Lunch's CD - they're both great), get some smoothies and a picnic lunch box. Go slow. Go really slow. Stop everywhere. Buy some fresh fruit or freshly baked banana bread at mile marker 17. If it's raining, dance in the rain. Soak it all up. Take tons of pictures everywhere. Grab a T-shirt that says you survived it. Stay overnight if you can, or head home, happy and tired, knowing that you've done it right. That yours was the car parked on the side of the road. That you took longer to get there than anyone else. That you truly experienced the Road to Hana, and all the treasures of natural beauty along the way, and you will take with you an amazing experience that you'll remember for the rest of your life. 1. Download GyPSy Guides 'Road to Hana App'. That way you won't miss a thing! 2. Go by Hana Picnic Lunch Co. in Paia for smoothies and a boxed picnic lunch. 3. When you're stopping in Paia check out the unique & affordable gifts at Sand & Sea. 4. Stop at mile marker 17. Look for the 'Halfway to Hana' sign where you can get fresh banana bread and treats. 5. On the way home, stop in Paia at Paia Gelato for a treat made with fresh local ingredients. 6. Stop in at the Hana Fresh Farm Stand for some of the best organic produce in the state. 7. Want to sit back and relax instead of driving? Then call Maui Touring Company for a guided tour. Our Recommendations: Great Drives around Maui James M.
