REVIEWS Restaurants & Sweeteries Mama's Ribs DINING When I was getting ready to write this article, the staff members in my office started rebelling. I heard things like "what exactly do you think you're doing James?" and "do you know what will happen if you write that?" They all got scared that once I tell the visitors, there will be a line at Mama's for a mile! But I told them, "Nah, people hardly ever read my articles," which is probably true. So here's the scoop. There's a small place tucked away in a little shopping center in the town of Napili (about 10 minutes north of Lahaina), that has, hands down, the best BBQ food in West Maui. It's a standard three times a week for me, and when you say the name of this place, everyone gets that same look on their face, like "Ohhh, I love their food." The chicken, ribs, and other delicacies are so delicious that I'm getting hungry just thinking about Star Noodle it. Their food literally just melts off the bone. It's 100% addictive, so watch out. But you don't have to believe me - check 'em out and see for yourself. I suggest ordering ahead. They're open Monday through Sunday. You'll be glad you did! And they're now in Kihei too. Perched high above Lahaina, off the beaten track, at the top of the hill across the street from The Lahaina Cannery Mall is where you will find Star Noodle. It's the creation of epicurean superstar Michael Moore, owner of the Old Lahaina Luau - Maui's highest acclaimed luau. Most of the menu items are made exclusively with Maui and Hawaii grown ingredients, prepared fresh and individually. Star Noodle is a place you can't help but fall in love with (we sure did). I love everything, but the pad thai noodles are my absolute favorite. You'll also want to save room for their freshly made hot malasadas–yummy!
