TOP 10 Things to do on Maui number five Biking Down Maui's Volcano - Haleakala This is something you'll only find on Maui. Biking down Haleakala Volcano scores as our #5 activity. Not only are the vistas at the top of Haleakala breathtaking, but coasting down the volcano on a bike is an absolute blast. Rides start at 6500', and you'll see the "Volcano Coast" of Maui, including cows, farms, flower gardens, horses, Makawao (The Cowboy Town), pineapple fields, and incredible views. Transportation is included on many sunrise and day tours. Sunrises are spectacular, but be prepared to leave at 2:30am or earlier (and that's not a typo!). Also, for sunrise trips dress warmly; it gets VERY cold (30°-40° F) at the top of Haleakala. Breakfast or lunch is optional (depending on what trip you take) and a fun time is guaranteed for everyone. If you can ride a bike, this is an activity you won't want to miss! Our two favorite bike companies are Maui Sunriders (579-8970) and Maui Downhill (871-2155). Give one of them a call today to reserve your adventure, and don't forget to bring your sunglasses and sunscreen! Ocean Action Adventures Maui features an array of wet and wild ocean activities, and here are some of our favorites: SNUBA® Dives: These trips give you the chance number to snorkel and stay underwater for up to 20 minutes at a time, with no experience. Fishing Excursions: On Maui you'll have the choice of bottom or sport fishing, and either one may mean fresh fish for dinner tonight. Guided Kayak Tours & Rentals: If you're looking to get really close to the sea life, without the engines or sails, then this is the way to go. Learn to Surf: When in Hawaii do as the Hawaiians do - go surfing! (It's easy and you're guaranteed to stand up the first time). Stand Up Paddleboarding: The fastest growing sport around, and one of the most fun. Kitesurfing & Windsurfing: Take advantage of Maui's famous winds, combining both the fun of surfing with the freedom of sailing. Jet Skiing: Another fast and fun activity available off the coast of Kaanapali from May 15th to December 14th. A Submarine Voyage: Takes you deep below the surface to see the sunken ship Carthaginian. Glass Bottom Boat Cruises: Featuring the best of both worlds when it comes to cruising - both above and below viewing - along with a dive show. Now get out there and partake in some of the incredible ocean adventures that await you, and take home a memory you won't forget. Not only will you enjoy great cuisine (and we mean it - the food is really excellent), but on both trips you'll watch the sunset while cruising along the gorgeous coast of Maui, and perhaps even get kissed (you might want to bring someone for this part). Expect to board between 4pm and 5pm, while it's still nice and light out. Most of these cruises last about 2-21/2 hours, Guide to Ocean Fun: depending on the company and the type of trip, and will feature an assortment of delicious food and beverages. Many also feature live music and dancing. The companies we like for Sunset Dinner & Cocktail Cruises are Hawaii Ocean Project (667-7006), Paragon Sailing Charters (244-2087), Pride of Maui (242-0955) and Quicksilver (667-2564). Bon voyage!
