If you continue past Oheo Gulch, you'll see the Kaupo Store, Huakini Bay (with its unusual bluish grey rocks) and the Pokowai Sea Arch. This route is not necessarily a faster way back, but it takes you through Ulupalakua, past MauiWine's vineyard, and down the slopes of Haleakala (see our Upcountry section on page 47). If it's been raining, or is aer 3:00pm, we don't suggest this road, as there are high oceanside cliffs and some sections that are unpaved and only one lane.
