1. EXPLORE PAIA Start off early, and make sure you've downloaded GyPSy Guide's Hana Tour App (GypsyGuide.com). It's narrated with tons of points of interest, so you won't miss a thing. 2. GAS UP IN KAHULUI Gas is cheapest at Costco, if you have a card. If you miss Kahului, you'll have one more chance in Paia, but it's a litte pricier. 3. STAY DRY It rains on the way to Hana... a lot! Bring a rain poncho or umbrella and plastic Ziplock for your camera, phone and wallet. And wear more than sandals if you want to hike. 4. STOP & SAMPLE FRESH TASTES Visit the Halfway to Hana refreshment stand (Mile Marker 17) for fresh baked banana bread, and Coconut Glen's (Mile Marker 27.5) for epic home- made ice cream. 5. STAY SAFE When you get out to explore, remember that many areas will be muddy, slippery, steep or heck all three! Be careful. 6. TAKE A BREAK Aer passing the Hana Gas Station, but before you reach Mile Marker 51, pull into Da Fish Shack for freshly caught fish, burgers, shave ice, or a root beer float. 7. BRING A SWIMSUIT It's romantic to skinny dip near a waterfall, but the Road to Hana is pretty popular and you probably won't be alone. Pack a suit and towel just to be safe. 8. 'DA FINAL TREAT On the way home stop by Paia's Ululani's for their shave ice! We're happy to say that the Road to Hana is our personal favorite in terms of scenic highways. Don't take our word for it, though on the following pages check out the photos of some of the sights this famous road has to offer. The road starts on Route 36 in Paia, and then the mile markers reset to 0 when Route 36 becomes 360 a good time to reset your odometer. One note of caution: never leave valuables in your unattended car or trunk better safe than sorry! This 42-mile road (from mile-marker 0) is literally carved into the side of the island and offers some of the world's most breathtaking oceanfront scenery. >> the Road to Hana Helpful Tips along the way: >> START: See map page 45.
